Big Cottonwood Canyon, UT · Solitude Mountain Resort — Sunrise Chairlift, 9,000 ft

Solitude Mountain Resort

18 holes · 2 layouts · Est. 2001

The Story

Solitude Mountain Resort's disc golf course was established in 2001 during the Gary DeSeelhorst ownership era, coinciding with the completion of Solitude Village by Intrawest. The 18-hole championship course starts at the top of the Sunrise chairlift at 9,000 feet elevation, making it one of the highest-altitude disc golf courses in North America.

The front nine plays down ski run fairways with dramatic elevation drops and sweeping Wasatch Mountain views. The back nine winds through dense aspen forest with more moderate terrain. The signature finishing hole is a 1,400-foot downhill bomb that has become one of the most photographed shots in mountain disc golf.

The resort also hosts a free 9-hole beginner course at the Moonbeam base area near the Link chairlift, designed for newcomers to the sport.

The annual Solitude Open, a PDGA B-tier tournament presented by MVP Disc Sports, has been running since approximately 2003. In 2026, the Solitude Open (Jul 10-11) serves as the official opening event of USWDGC championship week. Solitude is also the official lodging partner for USWDGC 2026, offering discounted rates for players and spectators with promo code 2026DISC.

What Players Say

branthoffman★★★★

Beautiful course, well worth the hike! Stunning mountain views. Fun downhill shots. Good variety of shots, water features, fields, trees, and epic bombs.

jwbeach★★★★★

For those who want to escape the confines of boring and unchallenging ol' city park courses and explore the demanding yet rewarding style of play that is mountain disc golf. Solitude is for you.

dgretsch81★★★★★

Very challenging to dial in the exact throw with the massive elevation changes. Well worth the trip though and a ton of fun.

jakelaputka★★★★★

Breathtaking views, incredible golf shots unmatched anywhere, this is my happy place.

mtdvs7★★★★

This course is so fun, mostly putters and mids, with a few bigger drives. Big downhills that are so satisfying to park when you get your trusty putter on the perfect glidey angle.

Maintenance

Solitude Mountain Resort manages course operations through its summer activities program. Discs are available for rent ($26 for a 3-disc set with instructions and scorecard) or purchase ($30) at the Powderhorn Adventure Center. The Sunrise chairlift provides access to the first tee; lift tickets run $20-22 with exemptions for Ikon Pass and season pass holders. Note: The Sunrise chairlift is undergoing construction (2025-2026), temporarily affecting holes 3, 4, 5, 8, and 9.
