The Wasatch Wunder
The Story
The Wasatch Wunder was conceived by Scott Belchak in early 2022 with the goal of bringing a full 18-hole disc golf course to the Heber Valley. The original ambitious concept was actually "The WoW" (Wasatch Over Wasatch), a high-altitude course near Guardsman Pass at 8,400 feet. That vision received a warm reception from park management, and the Wunder was created as the more immediate project — utilizing nine baskets Wasatch Mountain State Park had already acquired.
In February 2022 Belchak put out a call for volunteers. Roughly fifty people answered, contributing over 2,000 collective hours of labor. The full course was installed in approximately six weeks, making it playable by late April 2022 and giving Midway its first full-length PDGA Blue-level disc golf course.
Hole 1 sets the tone: a dramatic downhill drive over an open valley with panoramic views of the Heber Valley and Wasatch Mountains. From there the course moves through four distinct elevation levels — open sagebrush meadows, tight pine-forest tunnels along Pine Creek, creek crossings with seasonal spring runoff, and exposed ridgeline throws. The blend of wide-open high-desert and creekside forest tunnels in a single 18-hole layout is unusual for Utah and gives the Wunder a character players compare to eastern-style wooded courses.
Since opening, the Wunder has hosted 15+ PDGA events including the Disc Golf Masters Tour's "Masters of The Mountain" B-tier stop in 2024 and the annual WunderFall charity fundraiser. In 2024 ElevateUT secured $121,000 in combined grants from the Wasatch County TAP program and Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant to fund a major infrastructure transformation: full-sized tee pads, expanded parking, a welcome kiosk, warmup area, ADA improvements, and erosion control — work that continued through 2025.

What Players Say
This course is amazing with views, technical shots, challenging long shots, and just the variety from hole to hole — you can't go wrong. Tee signs are great and I love the benches on every hole.
Course brings a tight Eastern wooded course feel right here to Utah. The course still manages to offer tight lines, protected greens, shot and disc selection that you can only find in a few places in UT.
Very fun 18 hole course. Amazing views. Nice mix of shot distances and good use of elevation. Great mix of technical shots and open shots. Worth a visit!
Best course in the Heber Valley by far. Definitely worth playing. The course has great views and fun shots.
Public engagement at its finest.
Maintenance
ElevateUT manages ongoing course maintenance in partnership with Wasatch Mountain State Park. Jacob Beach and Bobby Grieve serve as lead builders and course curators. The community contributes through organized volunteer days, including the annual Wasatch Wunder Volunteer Day each November. WunderFall tournament proceeds fund signage, shade structures, and tee pad improvements.
