Tooele, UT · Dow James Park — 438 West 400 North

Tooele Dow James

18 holes · Est. 2022

The Story

Tooele Dow James opened in 2022 at Dow James Park in Tooele City, designed by Mike Sumner and Carlos Jimenez. The course occupies a unique dual landscape — the front nine weaves through Dow James Park with trees, pavilion areas, and a park-like setting near the baseball diamond. The back nine extends into a former horse racetrack surrounded by sagebrush with steep terrain and significant wind exposure.

The course launched without tee pads or signage, relying on UDisc for navigation. Physical signs were fabricated and installed in 2025, and the course has a mix of concrete, grass, and bare-dirt tee surfaces. The back nine has faced recurring tall-weed issues, though the front nine is generally well-maintained.

ElevateUT operates two PDGA-sanctioned Wednesday leagues at the course — Lone Wolf and Phoenix Rising. The first sanctioned league season (Event #92531) ran May–June 2025 with 18 participants across 35 rounds. The course fund stands at 25% toward a $1,000 improvement goal.

What Players Say

hollar76★★★★★

Fun course! They've made great use of the ridge that splits the course giving some fun elevation shots. Get to throw lots of different shot shapes.

marciniak1★★★★

This course was really, really fun to play. Whoever comes up with the mandatories and OB is doing a fantastic job and you can tell that they really care about the course.

bckcntryskr★★★★

Put the touch on the short ones and some rip on the few long ones. This excellent course is very enjoyable.

htown4real★★★★★

Once signs and tee pads get put on and the course gets maintained frequently, this course will be a must play course in Utah.

chance55feild★★★★

This course has great potential! Very friendly distances on all holes, many of them can be technical which adds a lot of fun. Really like the variation of elevation throughout the course.

Maintenance

Front nine is generally well-maintained by Tooele City Parks. Back nine has recurring tall weed issues and unkempt grounds. Tee surfaces are inconsistent — a mix of concrete, grass, and bare dirt. Physical course signs were installed in 2025. The course is not suitable for limited mobility due to steep terrain on the back nine. ElevateUT league participants contribute to the course improvement fund through league play.
